this week, while driving home from the chiropractor's office on tuesday, joel had a mini-meltdown. not a tantrum or anything like that. he was genuinely upset and distressed that we had to leave our mailbox in colorado at the green house (we had a green roof put on after the mega hail storm in 2007). he was so worked up about the fact that the mailman delivers our mail here to the bix metal box shared by everyone down the street. so, i told him we would make some! it started out as a discussion in the car that we would go to hobby lobby and get some cute boxes to paint and decorate, but, on second thought, we decided to make them out of cereal boxes! that way i am not too freaked out about how they treat them! we didn't have any empties, so i just pulled out the bags from two of the boxes and used those. we cut out construction paper for each, i taped it on with packaging tape after the boys decorated them. and we had cut a big door into the front for putting in/taking out mail. they had so much fun! now they are making mail for each other and dropping it off.
if you think about it, would you please drop the kids a postcard or letter in the next few days? we would love to put real mail into their boxes for them! oh, and abbie has a box, too...had an old kleenex box that we transformed for her! thanks so much!!
